Motion Text
That this House celebrates the extraordinary contribution of Sir David Attenborough to public life, broadcasting, natural history, science communication and conservation; recognises his decades of service in bringing the wonder, complexity and fragility of the natural world into homes, classrooms and communities across the United Kingdom and around the world; notes that his work has inspired generations to value biodiversity, protect wildlife and understand humanity’s responsibility to the planet; further notes the affection and respect in which he is held by people of all ages and across political divides; believes that his life and work represent the very best of British public service broadcasting, education and environmental leadership; and calls on the Government to establish an annual national day, on 8 May, to recognise Sir David Attenborough’s contribution and to encourage schools, communities, broadcasters, charities and public bodies to celebrate nature, conservation and environmental stewardship.
