NEW START TREATY

Motion Text

That this House congratulates presidents Obama and Medvedev and welcomes the entry into force of the new START treaty, reducing the numbers of nuclear weapons deployed by the US and Russia; believes this act will build confidence in the international non-proliferation and disarmament agenda; further believes that the Treaty should be built on by planning a further round of negotiations on warhead stockpile reduction; and urges the Government to prioritise its active support for further reductions, including of its own nuclear arsenal, at the next meeting of the P5 nuclear weapon states and at other appropriate international fora.
