NON-PROLIFERATION TREATY REVIEW CONFERENCE AND TRIDENT

<p>That this House contrasts the Written Answer of 2 June 2010from the hon. Member forNorth East Bedfordshire, theForeign Office Minister responsible for counter-proliferation, statingthat the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference is an important milestone in the UK's long-term vision for a world without nuclear weapons, with the statement made by the Prime Minister on 19 October 2010 that replacing Trident is both within the spirit and letter of the NPT; believes such renewal is incompatible with the obligation upon NPT member states possessing nuclear weapons, established in 1970 when the NPT entered into force, to negotiate away their nuclear weapons in good faith and at an early date; and urges the Government to outline how it will make further progress on the commitment in the Final Agreement of this year's NPT Review Conference to eliminate all types of the UK's nuclear weapons.</p>
