That this House, recalling the Deputy Prime Minister's substantial responsibility for the current proliferation of open cast mining following his axing of the British mining industry on the apparently specious grounds that there was no market for British coal, now commends Her Majesty's Opposition's 10 point plan which provides a comprehensive framework with which it will be possible to strike a proper balance between the interests of the wider public, the environment and the developers of open cast mines.
