Motion Text
That this House welcomes the launch of Opening Shift, a partnership between the British Retail Consortium, retailers and the Department for Work and Pensions to help people aged 16 to 24 who are not in education, employment, or training gain valuable experience and take their first steps into employment; recognises the challenges faced by young people, particularly the difficulty of gaining employment without prior work experience; commends the more than 40 retailers involved in the roll out of Opening Shift and the commitment already made to provide more than 11,000 placements for young people aged 18 to 24; notes the industry's ambition to support 100,000 young people into retail employment by 2029; and calls on employers across the economy to support similar initiatives that give young people the opportunity to gain experience, build confidence and succeed in work.
