PARENTAL LEAVE AND ADOPTION

That this House notes that there is no statutory right to maternity, paternity or parental leave in the United Kingdom for parents who adopt a child; notes that fewer than 1,000 babies under a year old are adopted each year and that the financial costs of providing these benefits to adoptive parents are likely to be minimal; and believes that people who take the responsibility of adopting young children should be entitled to the same benefits as natural parents.
