That this House is appalled and shocked at the decision of the French Government to award Lieutenant Colonel Alain Mafart a National Order of Merit; recalls that he and Captain Dominique Prieur were sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment in New Zealand in 1985 for bombing the 'Rainbow Warrior' in Auckland Harbour which resulted in one death and the loss of the ship; calls on the British Government to protest to the French at this callous act; and further records its appreciation to Greenpeace of its valuable work for peace and environmental protection.
