Motion Text

That this House recognises the fundamental democratic right of British citizens to engage in peaceful protest; acknowledges the legitimate public concern regarding illegal migration and the arrival of people in the United Kingdom through unlawful Channel crossings; believes that citizens must be free to express opposition to the Government’s immigration and border policies without being dismissed, insulted or unfairly characterised for doing so; affirms that peaceful protest must remain protected irrespective of whether those in positions of political authority agree with its message; further recognises the particular impact of illegal Channel crossings and associated disruption upon British communities; and calls on His Majesty’s Government to restore effective control of the United Kingdom’s borders, enforce immigration law and ensure that those with no lawful right to remain in the United Kingdom are removed.
