SHEEP TAGGING

Motion Text

That this House expresses its opposition to European Union proposals to give sheep identity tags in both ears, costing British farmers nearly ú100 million a year in labour and red tape; notes that presently sheep in the United Kingdom have a single tag in one ear with the new proposals having a greater impact on the United Kingdom given that 37 million of the EU's 100 million sheep are in the United Kingdom; and supports the efforts being made by the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in opposing this proposal and working with the National Farmers Union, National Sheep Association and other organisations in order to protect British farmers from being forced out of business as a consequence of EU bureaucracy.
