SHIPBUILDING ON MERSEYSIDE

Motion Text

That this House notes the Government's belated application for access to the intervention fund made recently on behalf of shipbuilders Swann Hunter on Tyneside; and expresses its outrage that no such application has been pursued on behalf of Camell Lairds on Merseyside, especially in the light of the granting of objective 1 status which recognises Merseyside as one of the poorest regions in Europe; notes with disapproval the fact that seven days after an urgent inquiry on this matter from the hon Member for Wallasey the Department of Trade and Industry has yet to reply; and urges Her Majesty's Government to support shipbuilding on Merseyside and not kill Camell Lairds by neglect and indifference.
