SOUTH LAKELAND DISTRICT HOUSING WAITING LIST

Motion Text

That this House notes that South Lakeland District Council's figures show that there are 1,000 empty properties in the district; further notes that Shelter's figures show that there are 3,325 households in the district on the housing waiting list; and believes that rules should be changed to allow authorities such as South Lakeland to raise capital against the value of their housing stock to unlock the resources they would need to ensure that empty properties are brought into use as affordable homes for local families in housing need.
