UK climate fund spending in Guyana

That this House is dismayed at reports that £52 million of taxpayers’ money has been spent on road construction in Guyana for a project alleged to be beset by fraud and corruption; expresses concern that this project was reportedly funded by a climate change fund yet has caused significant environmental damage to the jungle; questions why UK taxpayers are funding the economic development of other nations when deprived communities and public services in the UK are in urgent need of investment; notes that local communities in Guyana may not be benefitting from this funding; calls on the Government to review the funding criteria used when determining such spending commitments; and commends Hayley Dixon of the Telegraph for her investigative journalism in bringing this matter to public attention.
