Add Pet Heat Safety Warnings to UK Met Office Extreme Heat Alerts

We call on the Government to work with the Met Office to include pet heat safety advice in all official extreme heat warnings. This should include guidance on avoiding dog walks in dangerous temperatures, hot pavements, preventing heatstroke and when to seek urgent veterinary care.

Every year, dogs across the UK suffer and die from preventable heatstroke during periods of extreme heat. Many owners seem unaware of the dangers of hot pavements, high temperatures and overexertion. We believe the Government should work with the Met Office to include clear pet safety advice in all official heat warnings, helping owners recognise the risks, protect their animals and reduce avoidable suffering, injury and veterinary emergencies.
