Amend Equality Act so “sex” refers to gender identity, not biological sex

Background

Amend the Equality Act 2010 so “sex” refers to someone’s gender identity, acquired via the Gender Recognition Act 2004 if different to their biological sex. This would not mean self-ID or removing standards from single-sex spaces but would adjust the definition to match today's society.

Additional details

We feel the UKSC ruling For Women Scotland Ltd v The Scottish Ministers has introduced a myriad of issues for trans people across the UK and is based upon technical definitions within the Equality Act. By amending the Equality Act, the position of gender in law can be better aligned with the position of gender in society. This could allow for better protection of trans rights without necessarily diminishing women's rights or the importance of safe places. We feel the current system isn't fit for purpose.
