Make it a criminal offence to record someone without their consent, which includes covert recording with smart glasses, and posting it on social media, in order to protect vulnerable people from exploitation.

Additional details

We want it to be illegal and a criminal offence to deliberately record identifiable people without consent for social-media content, including recording via phones, wearable cameras and smart glasses. Being in public should not mean consenting to secret filming or becoming someone’s online entertainment or income. We feel vulnerable people, including homeless people, children and those who are intoxicated or distressed, need stronger protection. The new law should cover all recording technology, with tougher penalties for covert, exploitative or monetised filming. Being in public does not mean content.
