Fund the inclusion of music therapy in community mental health support

Background

We believe government plans to expand community mental healthcare support are vital to improving access, outcomes and quality of life for service users. The Government should fund the provision of music therapy services, offering an evidence-based route to support that transcends words and language.

Additional details

If there is to be a new community model for mental healthcare, we believe it is vital that service users have access to the full range of evidence-based psychological support that meets their needs, meaning music therapy should be included in these developments from the outset. We feel failing to provide music therapy would be a significant missed opportunity to make care more accessible, responsive, and inclusive, particularly for those who may find predominantly verbal approaches inaccessible.
