Government to fund access to portage services by all Local Authorities

Background

We call on the Government to fund all Local Authorities to provide portage services in every area, as we believe this will ensure a young child with developmental delay and disability can have more successful outcomes.

Additional details

Portage can promote critical early development for children delivering structured, play-based learning that supports communication, social development, play, early cognition, and physical skills. It fully aligns with First 1001 Days and Best Start in Life. Portage can support secure relationships, responsive interactions, & early developmental gains which we believe are central in the national early years reform. We also think it can prevent escalation of need, leading to improved developmental trajectories & reduces reliance on more intensive services.
