Legislate to abolish royal prerogative powers & give them to Parliament

Background

Parliament should legislate to abolish the Crown’s royal prerogative powers, including dissolution, prorogation, Royal Assent, appointments, treaties, Head of the Armed Forces, and King’s Consent over certain legislation. We want to place these powers under Parliament’s authority.

Additional details

The Crown’s prerogative are powers held or exercised in the Monarch’s name. They include dissolving/opening Parliament, proroguing it, Royal Assent to Bills, appointing Prime Ministers/ministers, agreeing treaties, and being Head of the Armed Forces. King’s Consent give the Crown advance sight of, and special consent procedure for bills affecting the Crown’s powers. We believe all these powers should be handed to Parliament by statute.
