Mandate neurodiversity training for staff in children’s sports & arts

Background

We call on the UK Government to mandate neurodiversity training for any staff members working with children in the sports and arts sectors, including in grassroots sports clubs, football academies and the arts.

Additional details

We believe neurodiversity training could provide staff with basic awareness of autism, ADHD and other neurodivergent conditions. Many children have hidden needs and may be excluded without understanding or adjustments. Schools must make reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010; we believe the same support should apply outside school.
