Publish assessment of China’s Ethnic Unity Law & transnational repression risks

Background

We call on the Government to publish a standalone assessment of whether China’s Ethnic Unity Law increases the risk of transnational repression for UK residents, and for the assessment to provide recommendations on measures to protect those who could be at risk.

Additional details

The UK Government has recognised transnational repression as a threat to democracy and human rights. We are concerned China's Ethnic Unity Law may have implications for diaspora communities living abroad. We believe the UK Government should assess any potential impact on UK residents, including Hong Kongers, Tibetans, Uyghurs, Chinese dissidents and others, and publish recommendations to strengthen protections against intimidation, coercion and foreign interference.
