Publish framework to remove VAT on donations of medicines

Background

Patients with rare cancers face limited treatment options. VAT should not create another barrier to accessing possibly life-extending medicines offered free of charge. We ask the Government to publish their plans on removing VAT on medicines donated via compassionate-use and early-access schemes.

Additional details

The Government has already recognised this problem and committed to a new approach. We ask the Government to act urgently and publish its plans and the new framework on removing VAT on medicines donated through compassionate-use and early-access schemes, and ensuring no patient loses access to treatment simply because a free medicine creates a tax charge.
