Require local authorities to prioritise HMO demand in new developments

Background

I ask the Government to consider changing planning policy so that demand for Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) is met through new developments rather than converting existing family homes. Where there is a demonstrated local need, planning authorities could work with developers

Additional details

With more homes required HMOs can play a role in this but should not significantly affect established residential communities where family houses are increasingly converted into HMOs. This can cause pressure on parking, waste management, noise, crime, drug misuse, and effect local infrastructure and community stability. We believe a better approach would be new housing developments providing purpose-built HMO or shared-living rather than allowing established family neighbourhoods to become affected by this.
