Specify China under Enhanced Tier of the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme

Background

We urge the Government to specify China and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region under the Enhanced Tier of the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme. We believe this could help to protect British democracy.

Additional details

The Intelligence and Security Committee warned in 2023 of China’s efforts to gain political influence and economic advantage in the UK. Hong Kongers have sought refuge in the UK in the hope that they can exercise their freedoms here without fear.
