To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to the oral contribution by the Minister for the Armed Forces to the House of Commons Defence Select Committee on 8 March 2023, how many regiments of Challenger 2 tanks are available to the Army as of 27 April 2023.

Answer

The British Army holds an active fleet of 213 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tanks. The Army has three Type 58 Armoured Regiments: The Queen's Royal Hussars, The King's Royal Hussars and The Royal Tank Regiment.

The Army continually reviews the readiness of its equipment; however, it would be inappropriate to comment further due to the potential impact on security and operational effectiveness.
