Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill

Contribution

A child’s first year in school has been described as an emotional, social, physical and mental workout. Every day, children learn new information, social rules and the application of new skills, so a lot is packed in to 10 months of the school year and we have a duty to make sure children are ready for school. The Government have set a target of 75% of children achieving a good level of development by 2028, compared to 67.7% today. Across the House, we welcome this target, but the strategy to deliver it and its milestones are not clear. My noble friend’s Amendment 183B would give this to the Government on a plate, and I hope they accept it.
