Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Scheme (Amendment) (Extension to Maritime Activities) Order 2026Contribution
I hope that I have been able to put this SI into its proper context. That is what it is about and that is what we would be voting on this afternoon on either the fatal Motion or the regret amendment. I do not think that either is well founded in terms of the overall aims of the SI, which I emphasise are benign, in line with what we want to do on decarbonisation and to the benefit of British trade and industry in the long term. The SI has thought out the problems of dealing with the practical issues of implementing the wider picture of the EU ETS and the maritime sector. Although progress will certainly be regularly reported on ahead of the review in 2028, we can best have a good look at it in 2028 to see whether we have done as well as we think we have done already to make this work for the future.
