Speaking in the House of Lords on 2 June 2025

Data (Use and Access) Bill [HL]Contribution
Creators are living in fear for their future, with copyright theft being compared to the Wild West. It is like industrial espionage on a grand scale. We need the Government to make some sort of compromise—not just by talking to big tech companies but by listening to the strength of concerns and worries, not only across this House but among the thousands and thousands of creators, established ones as well as those up and coming, across the country. At this critical point in time, any compromise may not be perfect—a silver bullet to allay fears—but it will lay down a marker and be a show of intent that this Government truly care for the creative industry’s future and its fight for survival.
