Tobacco and Vapes BillContribution
A Government full of lawyers and led by a lawyer, who seems obsessed, actually, about international law, should explain clearly how they claim that they can proceed, how they claim that they can override EU objections, and what the risks are for Northern Ireland and for the Bill if they are wrong. We deserve transparency, and the United Kingdom deserves better than a system where laws affecting one part of our country can be challenged, delayed or diluted by external actors while Ministers shrug and ask us to take it on trust. We have taken it on trust before and it proved to be something that we cannot do again. For those reasons, I cannot support the approach that has been taken on this and I beg to move.
