In new clause 54, the hon. Member for Leeds East (Richard Burgon) proposes new rules around the declaration of gifts or benefits worth more than £5,000 in the year before someone can be nominated as a candidate. That is an eminently sensible proposal, and I cannot see why the Government would not take it on board. New clause 58, tabled by the hon. Member for Poplar and Limehouse (Apsana Begum), would see domestic abuse added to the list of schedule 9 offences. Again, I can see no reason why the Government would not adopt that. As we have heard, multiple amendments have been tabled to clean up the amount of dirty money circulating around UK politics, to curtail foreign donations and to examine how the reins can be pulled in on campaign spending.
