Representation of the People Bill

Contribution

I applaud the hon. Member for Leeds Central and Headingley (Alex Sobel) for his new clause 69, the right hon. Member for Oxford East (Anneliese Dodds) for new clause 70, the right hon. Member for Islington South and Finsbury (Emily Thornberry) for new clauses 85 and 86, and the hon. Member for Walthamstow (Ms Creasy) for new clause 20. Every single one of those amendments, and many others on the amendment paper, would have made this Bill significantly better. It is hugely disappointing that the Government have chosen not to take on more of them. May I say purely in passing that I just wish that we could have had a vote on proportional representation, so that we could have brought this Parliament into line with every other Parliament on these islands.
