The SNP will of course support this Bill, but I cannot help but feel that this has been something of a missed opportunity to right a great wrong. I am sure I was not alone in hoping, when consideration on Report was pulled before the recess, that the new Prime Minister and his team would take the opportunity to look at those amendments, many of which originated from the Prime Minister’s own Back Benchers, adopt them and make this legislation far more radical, far more ambitious and much more democratic. I sincerely hope that this is not a signal that the great radical reformer is becoming yet another timid conservative.
