I am also grateful to the noble Lord, Lord De Mauley, and the noble and gallant Lord, Lord Stirrup, for Amendment 52 and the attention it gives to the important issue of reporting on the state of the volunteer reserve force. We agree that Parliament should continue to receive robust and independent reporting. The noble Lord, Lord Harlech, asked about accountability. I do not believe there is any greater accountability than an annual report to this House and the other place. That will give all of us the opportunity to read what has or has not happened, raise questions or even call Ministers to account.
