In making that request, I recognise that that is now standard practice in a range of other sectors, including telecoms, the BBC and energy. The request for separate accounting is not necessarily a bureaucratic one but one that builds confidence in the basis of competition and perhaps addresses the CMA’s conclusion that the risks of self-preferencing are real in retail and additional safeguards may be required.
