Public Office (Accountability) Bill

but what defence would be available to a public authority that or official who fails to notify an inquiry of relevant acts or information if they were not aware of it? I think the Bill actually contains an answer to that question but, for the benefit of those who will have to navigate this new duty and should not be required to parse the Bill in order to work out what their duties are, perhaps the Minister will be able to answer it for us today. For this Bill to have the impact we all would want it to have if it becomes law, we do not want to disincentivise good and honest people from choosing to devote themselves to public service. Therefore, we need to make sure there is no ambiguity. I look to the Minister to remove that ambiguity today.
