Debate

Public Office (Accountability) Bill

Contribution

With great respect to my noble friend, that is not the intention of these amendments. It is not to replace those authorities; it is to trigger that investigation. I made it clear in my remarks that the decision would be for the democratically elected Secretary of State and it would happen only after a majority of the families wanted it. It would therefore give agency to the families but the ultimate decision would lie with the Secretary of State.
