Railways Bill

Contribution

I thank the Minister for that response and the offer of a meeting. We would certainly welcome the opportunity to continue the conversation in that way. To echo the point that my noble friend Lord Harper made, what we are seeking here is not legislation; as I noted, neither the Rail Safety and Standards Board nor the Light Rail Safety and Standards Board is set out in in statute. The difficulty that the heritage rail sector has, as my noble friend says, is that it is smaller and run by volunteers, and many of the organisations are charities or small businesses that make a loss. If we are able to continue the conversation with that point in mind, as I think the Minister is indicating, that would be most welcome.
