that one of the grounds for abortion set out in Section 1 is met. Under the noble Baroness’s amendment, the good faith opinion of a registered medical practitioner would not in itself constitute a defence. However, your Lordships may wish to note that this provision as drafted seems to have no effect, since if a doctor acted in good faith, the termination would be considered lawful under Section 1 of the Abortion Act and no offence would have been committed.
