Finally, let me touch on Amendments 188 and 189, which relate to social mobility monitoring and reporting. The Social Mobility Commission made it clear to me that that qualitative measures of social mobility matter now more than ever. Progress cannot be captured solely through narrow metrics; we must also understand lived experience, barriers removed and opportunities genuinely expanded. This raises an important question: how do we properly record and assess progress in this area? This is not a reason to shy away from measurement but precisely why the Government should begin exploring more meaningful approaches. These amendments would help drive that work forward. Being able to say, “This was the position on days one, two, three, four and five. The situation is improving”, is critical. It also gives others great encouragement to become involved.
