However, we know that mayoral strategic authorities are vital in supporting us to achieve our mission and helping us prioritise opportunities for young people. That is why we are making £140 million available to pilot, with mayoral strategic authorities, new approaches to better connect young people aged 16 to 24—especially those who are not in education, employment or training—with those local apprenticeship opportunities. This pilot will enable the Government to test and learn from different local approaches as we build the evidence base for what works, utilising the expertise of those mayoral strategic authorities that know their areas best.
