Debate

Finance (No. 2) Bill

Contribution

I want to make this point. The Liberal Democrat spokesperson, the hon. Member for St Albans (Daisy Cooper), asked several questions. We will come forward with a support package—any further support that we will make available—when we are able to do so. As for her point about VAT, I know that an answer has been given to the parliamentary question asked by one of her colleagues about exactly that point, but I gently say to her—as, indeed, I have said to other Members during the debate—that if we want to cut taxes, the money has to come from somewhere. That has not been acknowledged at all. I therefore propose that new clauses 8, 9 and 26 should be rejected and that clause 86 should stand part of the Bill. Question put, That the clause stand part of the Bill.
