Northern Ireland Troubles Bill

Contribution

Through the Bill, the Government have an opportunity to repair some of the damage caused by the legacy Act, and to rebuild confidence across communities. It would be a profound disappointment if the amendments introduced in the name of protecting veterans instead weakened confidence in access to justice and disturbed important safeguards arising from the peace process. I urge Ministers to reflect on those concerns, reconsider the amendments and ensure that the Bill strengthens, rather than undermines, the foundations of confidence on which reconciliation must rest.
